About us

Two cultures, one table in Vila Real.

Genki is the Japanese word for energy and good spirits. Douro is the valley that gives us our place, our rhythm and our people. The restaurant lives where the two meet: Japanese cooking made fresh every day on Avenida João Paulo II, for the people who live here and those passing through.

Our story

It started with a simple idea: cook well, right here.

Vila Real is not a big city. Everyone can tell when a place takes itself seriously — and that is what we have tried to do since the first service.

[Tell the story of how Genki Douro began: where the idea came from, who was in the first kitchen, what has changed since and what stayed the same. Two or three paragraphs is plenty.]

01

Sushi

Hand-cut fish, rice seasoned the same day, and pieces regulars now order by number.

02

Ramen

Slow broth and fresh noodles, served steaming — the bowl that warms a Trás-os-Montes winter.

03

Wok

Live-fire plates, garlic or spicy, for a full table with everything shared.

The people behind it

[Owner name]

Founder and host

[Two or three sentences about who opened the restaurant: the path here, where they learned to cook, what brought them to Vila Real.]

[One more personal line — a favourite dish, the best table in the room, what they like to hear from a guest who comes back.]

A restaurant is not judged on its first dinner. It is judged by who comes back the week after.

How we work

Four things we will not give up.

Rice treated properly, temperature on point and clean cuts — everything follows from that.
